Clear the Way for Your Next Step
Stump grinding and root removal to address what’s left behind after a tree is gone.
The Tree Is Gone. The Obstacle Doesn’t Have to Stay.
Make Your Yard Easier to Use and Maintain
A leftover stump can keep an otherwise usable space off limits. You may have to mow around it, work around it when landscaping, or keep reminding people to watch their step. Exposed roots can create similar frustrations long after the tree has been removed.
B&G provides stump grinding and root chasing to address those remaining obstacles. Whether the tree was recently removed or the stump has been there for years, we can assess the area and discuss what it will take to move forward.
What We Address
Reasons to Address a Stump or Exposed Roots
Stop Working Around a Stump
Mowing and maintaining your yard is simpler when a stump isn’t interrupting the space. Grinding addresses the remaining stump so you can plan the next stage of restoring the area.
Remove an Unwanted Focal Point
An old stump can draw attention away from the landscape you’ve worked to create. Addressing it helps give the area a more finished appearance.
Deal With Exposed Root Obstacles
Roots left behind after removal can interfere with foot traffic, lawn care, or landscaping plans. Root chasing targets selected exposed or disruptive roots rather than leaving you to work around them.
Prepare for Something New
If you’re planning a planting bed, lawn repair, or another improvement, discuss that with us before the work begins. Your intended use helps determine which stump and root concerns need attention.
Stump Grinding Addresses What’s Left Behind
Stump grinding uses equipment to break down the remaining stump into smaller wood material. It allows us to address the stump without treating the project as the excavation of an entire root system.
During the site visit, we’ll look at the stump’s size and location, access for equipment, and nearby features that may affect the work.
We’ll also discuss the intended grinding depth, how the resulting material will be handled, and what condition you can expect the area to be left in. You’ll know what the estimate includes before deciding to proceed.
What Is Root Chasing?
Root chasing is the grinding or cutting away of selected roots that remain exposed or cause problems after a tree has been removed.
You might have a root running across a mowing area, protruding where people walk, or occupying space you want to landscape. We assess those particular concerns and discuss which roots can be addressed within the project.
Root chasing does not mean removing every underground root. The work focuses on the roots identified during the assessment and included in your estimate.
Your Plans Help Define the Work
“What will I be able to do with this area afterward?” is an important question—and the answer depends on what you have in mind.
Let us know if you want to:
- Restore lawn over the area.
- Create or expand a planting bed.
- Plant a replacement tree.
- Improve access through part of the yard.
- Prepare the space for another property project.
Grinding a stump is one step in preparing the area. Depending on your plans, removing grindings, adding soil, leveling, or other preparation may also be needed. We’ll discuss what is included in our work and what may remain afterward.
If you’re considering a replacement tree, we can also discuss whether another location would provide better growing space.
Have an Older Stump or Several to Address?
You don’t have to arrange stump grinding at the same time as tree removal. If a previous project left a stump behind, we can assess it as a separate job.
If there are several stumps or root obstacles on your property, point them out during the site visit. Looking at them together helps establish the full scope and gives you an estimate for the work you want completed.
For an upcoming tree removal, ask about including stump grinding and root chasing from the outset.
A Clear Estimate for a Clearer Space
Owner Ben Gutierrez typically handles site visits and estimates and is usually on site during projects. You can discuss the obstacles, your plans for the area, and any concerns about access or nearby landscaping with someone involved in the work.
Before the project begins, we’ll explain which stumps and roots are included, how the resulting material will be handled, and what to expect when the work is complete.
That clarity helps you plan your next step without assuming the area will be ready for every use immediately after grinding.
